ODU Sports Partnership

9/19/2016 (Permalink)

As many of you know, since we have acquired SERVPRO of Norfolk West, we have become big sponsors and supporters of Old Dominion University athletics. Last year we enjoyed being a big sponsor of ODU football and basketball and we are looking forward to doing it again this year. It is very important to us that we are as involved in the local community as possible. Sometimes that means working with local community service groups and sometimes it means gearing up for game day to cheer on the Monarchs.

To kick off the football season this year, we will be the Game Day sponsor for the ODU vs UNC game September 16th at 3:30. If you are going to be at the game, be sure to check out our tent inside the stadium for some giveaways.

Community 12th Annual Portsmouth Partnership Golf Tournament Our tent right before the tournament started.

SERVPRO of Portsmouth was proud to sponsor the 12th Annual Portsmouth Partnership Golf Tournament last month. The tournament took place at the beautiful Elizabeth Manor Golf & Country Club right in our own backyard. We provided beverages, snacks and prizes all while getting to enjoy chatting with the golfers as they stopped by our tent. This is the 4th year we have sponsored this event and it is always nice to see so many local businesses come out to show their support. We look forward to participating in the Portsmouth Partnership Golf Tournament in the future.

For those who don’t know, the Portsmouth Partnership is a group of volunteer business, professional and civic leaders who are committed to Portsmouth’s economic development in the broadest possible sense.  In pursuit of an ever-improving quality of life for Portsmouth’s residents, the Partnership’s members work to create job opportunities and tax revenue, to bring underutilized properties to their highest and best use, to identify and groom future community leaders, to directly support worthy non-profit organizations, to promote trade and tourism in Portsmouth’s Olde Towne District, and to foster support for the Portsmouth Public School System and its innovative programs. It is a fantastic organization and we are proud to be a part of it.

We just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who came out to our 3rd annual Cinco De Mayo celebration on Friday. We had to brave the elements a bit but the event was still a great success. Special thanks to Guads in Olde Towne for catering the event, the food was absolutely phenomenal.

For those that don't know, we hold a Cinco De Mayo celebration every year as a special thanks to everyone we do business with and work with throughout the year. If you missed out on it this year, be on the lookout for next year's invitations.

Community The 2014 Lefcoe Leaders Build a Playgorund Ida Barbour's New Playground

The Vann H. Lefcoe Leadership Development Program is a program dedicated to identify, educate, and encourage future leaders within the City of Portsmouth. Every year the class is responsible for a community service project and this year is no different. Some past projects include; renovating the Westhaven Boys Home, beautifying the Hope House, helping out at the H.E.R. Shelter, and helping the Charles Peete Little League. This year the Lefcoe group decided to help out Ida Barbour Early Learning Center.

The Lefcoe Class decided to raise money to help the early learning center by building a playground for the 1-2 year age group. With the leftover funds, the lefcoe class was able to plant two trees around the playground for shade and build a much-needed shed. With a lot of helping hands, the project only took one weekend to complete.

SERVPRO employees volunteered their time for the weekend to bring “construction expertise” to the project.  SERVPRO of Portsmouth was also able to help with tools and equipment.

If you are interested in seeing more pictures of the renovation, go to the SERVPRO of Portsmouth Facebook Page.

Turkeys for Thanksgiving

Community Turkeys for Thanksgiving Help SERVPRO of Portsmouth bring Thanksgiving dinner to those in need this year,

As you know, when we get closer to Thanksgiving, you will be able to win some real turkeys for your Thanksgiving dinner through our trivia contests on Facebook; look for SERVPRO of Portsmouth. Some of you have asked about giving them to charity if they win. We have decided to go one step further.

We have partnered up with Portsmouth Redevelopment Housing Association to give back. We are going to be putting together Thanksgiving baskets for 27 families that cannot afford to have a Thanksgiving dinner this year. SERVPRO of Portsmouth is donating the turkeys for each family. Some other local businesses have taken an interest and decided to contribute as well but we can't do it all on our own.

This is where you come in. For the next few weeks we will have a donation box in our office if you have anything you would like to contribute. The goal of the baskets is to give each family the basics they would need to have a nice Thanksgiving dinner. Even the smallest contributions go a long way. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Remember, even the smallest gestures can mean the world to a family in need.

The 2013 Lefcoe Leaders Help Charles Peete Little League

Community The 2013 Lefcoe Leaders Help Charles Peete Little League SERVPRO of Portsmouth and Charles Peete Team Up

The Vann H. Lefcoe Leadership Development Program is a program dedicated to identify, educate, and encourage future leaders within the City of Portsmouth. Every year the class is responsible for a community service project and this year is no different. Some past projects include; renovating the Westhaven Boys Home, beautifying the Hope House, and helping out at the H.E.R. Shelter. This year’s class set their sights on helping the Charles Peete Little League, an urban baseball league.

The Lefcoe Class decided to raise money to assist the league by renovating the clubhouse and field. They were able to clean up the field, fix up the batting cages, and restore the concession stand. The multiple weekend project was a success and SERVPRO of Portsmouth helped each weekend.

The help consisted of SERVPRO employees volunteering their time for the weekends to bring “construction expertise” to the project.  SERVPRO of Portsmouth was also able to help with tools and equipment in SERVPRO trucks.

The Charles Peete League has over a dozen teams who compete regionally.  The work of this spring helped give them a field and facilities on par with other better funded leagues.  Great work for the community, and SERVPRO helped!
